Chip ice cream is coming to Milan (if the Prosecco one wasn't enough for you)
We've seen all sorts of gelato flavors. From Ernst Knam's wasabi gelato to the award-winning prosecco gelato from Gelateria Zanetti in Cittadella, near Padua. And then there's Parmigiano Reggiano, beer, and even foie gras, all the way from overseas.
The simplest ingredient was still missing from the extensive list, the one that seems to have nothing to do with dessert, the star of the aperitif, the inevitable companion of finger food lovers: the potato chip.
The idea is Gusto 17, a Milanese farm-to-table ice cream shop aiming to reach homes during aperitivo time (and beyond). "We believe it's time to act in a disruptive way, to give people a moment of joy and pleasure at home," explains Rossella De Vita, founder of Gusto 17 along with Stefania Urso and Vincenzo Fiorillo.
Provocation or not, the potato chip that inspired Gusto 17's innovation is not a run-of-the-mill French fry, but rather the "gourmet fried potato" created by Patatas Nana in the Marche region. The Agria del Fucino PGI potato is the star of these small artisanal cones filled with potato chip ice cream and topped with a dark chocolate and salted peanut sauce.
