Deep Ellum’s Braindead Brewing Will Reopen This Weekend Amid Dispute Between Its Owners

Yesterday, Braindead Brewing announced plans to reopen its doors as a restaurant this weekend, but it’s possible that the popular Deep Ellum beer bar won’t make it for long.

“Jeff insists my belief in the Profit & Loss statement is misguided, and and that he’s going to do it on his own no matter what I think. I hope he succeeds,”

According to a post to Braindead’s Facebook page, the bar was set to reopen on Friday, September 11, after months of take-out only service. That news wasn’t exactly welcome to Braindead co-founder Sam Wynne, who posted a lengthy screed on Facebook announcing that the bar was reopening against his wishes, and would likely soon be locked out of its space at 2625 Main Street by the building’s landlord.

According to Wynne, the bar has defaulted on its rent payments, and is “out of money, and no more is coming.” “The landlord is supposed to have locked us out last week, and I’m not sure why they haven’t,” Wynne wrote. “I told the staff a couple weeks ago when the default letter arrived.” Wynne says that his business partner, Jeff Fryman, will continue to operate the bar.

“Jeff insists my belief in the Profit & Loss statement is misguided, and and that he’s going to do it on his own no matter what I think. I hope he succeeds,” Wynne wrote. “It’ll be locked up covertly overnight soon, unless Jeff can pull a miracle out of his hat. But he’s always been a magician, so I’m not counting him out yet.”

Eater has reached out to both Wynne and Fryman for comment on the bar’s future, and will update this post as more details become available.
