Balkansteaks
Balkan-style schnitzel made from seasoned ground beef, topped with paprika and pickles. A hearty recipe that the whole family will love.
Ingredients · Servings 4
- 1 egg (size M)
- 4 pcs of pickles
- 500 g minced meat (beef)
- 2 tbsp barbecue mustard
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 bell pepper (red or yellow)
- 0.5 tsp pepper (black, ground)
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 1 yellow onion
Method · 20 min
- Wash the bell peppers, dry them, remove the seeds, and dice them very finely. Peel the onion and dice it finely as well. Peel the garlic and mince it finely or press it through a garlic press. Dice the pickles.
- Place the ground beef in a large bowl. Add the egg, mustard, bell pepper, onion, garlic, and pickles. Season with salt and pepper.
- Thoroughly mix all ingredients with your hands or a wooden spoon until a smooth meat mixture is formed. Do not knead for too long so that the patties remain nice and light.
- Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape them into slightly oval patties about 1.5 to 2 cm thick. Slightly press in the center so they retain their shape while frying.
- Heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan. Fry the Balkan schnitzel over medium heat for about 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Depending on their thickness, they can then be cooked for another 1–2 minutes over reduced heat. Serve immediately while hot and garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
