Old Bohemian oil cake

Old Bohemian recipes still have their charm in modern times. For example, this oil sponge cake, which you can make in no time and with almost no work. Not only does it taste great, but it looks beautiful when cut. It's definitely worth trying.

Ingredients · Servings 1 where
  • 200 g plain flour
  • 180 g powdered sugar
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • 1/2 baking powder
  • 5 tablespoons oil
  • 100 ml of water
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • grease for removing molds
  • coarse flour for dusting the mold
Method · 1 h 20 min
  1. Grease the cake tin and sprinkle with flour. Separate the eggs into yolks and whites.
  2. Beat the egg yolks with the powdered sugar and vanilla sugar until foamy. Stir in the oil, water and sift the plain flour mixed with baking powder through a sieve into the mixture.
  3. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form and carefully fold into the batter. Preheat the oven to 170°C.
  4. Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake tin. Mix cocoa dissolved in milk into the other half of the batter and pour over the light part of the batter.
  5. Place in the oven and bake for about 45 minutes. Check for doneness with a skewer inserted into the cake. It should come out dry when removed.
