Ingredients

  • 500 g flour
  • 200 g sugar
  • 220 ml milk
  • 120 ml honey A teaspoon of aniseed
  • 80 g diced candied orange
  • 80 g walnut kernels A sachet of vanilla baking powder Icing sugar to taste

Making rustic Tuscan walnut biscuits

To make these cookies, combine the flour and baking powder in a large bowl and stir. Then, add the candied orange peel and crushed anise seeds. Coarsely chop the walnuts and add them to the other ingredients, stirring again to combine the dough.

Melt the honey and sugar together in a double boiler, stirring constantly, and begin gradually pouring the mixture into the flour, mixing with a fork. Alternately, add the room-temperature milk, a little at a time, until the mixture is smooth and soft, yet slightly sticky.

Scoop out small amounts of dough and shape them into slightly flattened balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them slightly apart, and bake at 160°C (320°F) for about 20 minutes. When they're lightly golden, turn off the heat and let them cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired, and enjoy!
