Chocolate Totò, a typical Sicilian sweet treat

Chocolate Totò, a typical Sicilian sweet treat

Chocolate totò are fragrant, soft cookies covered in a cocoa glaze that makes them even more delicious. They're a traditional Sicilian delicacy and are made for special occasions, including All Souls' Day. Let's see how to make them with our quick recipe!

Ingredients

  • 500 g of
  • 00 flour
  • 350 ml of milk A vial of orange flavouring
  • 50 ml of seed oil
  • 80 g of bitter cocoa powder
  • 180 g of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 sachet of baking powder
  • 150 g of dark chocolate chips

Preparing the totò

To make these sweets, start by sifting the flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder into a large bowl. Separately, combine the orange flavoring, milk, and oil in a jug and emulsify lightly.

Pour the sugar into the dry ingredients and mix with a spatula. Then, slowly add the liquids, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.

Once this is done, take small amounts of dough and shape them into balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them apart, and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20 minutes.

Once the cookies are cool, melt the dark chocolate in a bain-marie and glaze them one at a time. Place them on a wire rack until the icing is completely set, then serve!
