Geoffroy Pithon's favorite restaurants
From paintbrush to fork, Geoffroy Pithon casts his artistic eye over the tables he loves, with a penchant for adventurous cuisine, characterful bistros, and Margherita pizzas. Between Nantes and Cadaqués, the painter sketches his favorite spots for us.
The latest culinary revelation?
Knives at the Set restaurant in Cadaqués: a shellfish that I don't eat often, and served that time with a herb oil… A delight.
The address where you have your regular place setting?
I often go to Maison Arlot Cheng, a bakery on the Île de Nantes. I've made it a habit to stop there on my way to the city center! Their daily specials are very good, and the fish with beurre blanc sauce is truly excellent.
A restaurant where you can paint and eat at the same time?
Freia, chef Sarah Mainguy's restaurant! I've been lucky enough to go several times; it's an inspiring place where I feel at home. Between the architecture, the warmth of the wood, the beautiful ceramic tableware, and the magnificent, adventurous, and earthy cuisine, it's like a work of art created with natural pigments! I've never painted there, but it seems like the perfect studio…
The anti-Sunday night blues plan?
A good Margherita! It's very simple, but with the right ingredients, it can be truly delicious. Anyway, pizza is one of my favorite foods!
What's on the agenda right now?
I'm leaving in a few days for Mumbai to start a book project. In November, I'm presenting a site-specific installation at a pretty amazing location, but the details are still confidential… Finally, in December, my gallery Maāt and I are closing out the year with a duo show at Untitled Miami.
His favorite restaurants:
– Silex, Chahaignes: “My wife and her family and I have made it a habit to meet there for certain occasions. We always have a great time, and the simple, local cuisine is prepared with taste. They also have a nice selection of local natural wines!”
– Le Mirza, Nantes: “I love this place for its old-fashioned bistro atmosphere, with modern touches. Their tiling is magnificent, it’s lively, it’s really great.”
– Marguerite, Nantes: “It’s kind of like the local snack bar! I grab a quick bite there, like a pita filled with lamb in the form of a bao and other stuffed buns… It’s also ideal for sitting down and enjoying an excellent coffee!”
