You Should Think Twice About Eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Here's Why

Sometimes, it's incredibly convenient to grab a box of cereal with a cup of cold milk on busy mornings. You get to treat yourself to a delicious breakfast with minimal prep, after all. As far as cereal fans are concerned, there is no dearth of options in a market that's always overflowing with new flavors.

As per the General Mills website, the cereal is meant for fans of all ages, adults and kids alike. In fact, its tagline is self-explanatory: "everyone is a kid at heart." Good nutrition, however, is important for everyone, regardless of age, which brings us to one of the main drawbacks to fueling your day with Cinnamon Toast Crunch. The cereal isn't great for your health at all and can hurt you in more ways than one. Wondering why? Here is a hint: it has a lot to do with the sheer amount of sugar that your spoon is conveying to your tastebuds.

It's not worth it

According to Cheatsheet, Cinnamon Toast Crunch is one of your worst breakfast cereal choices if you're health conscious and want to monitor your sugar intake. A small serving of the cereal has 200 calories and delivers 10 grams of sugar. Also, it's likely that you won't restrict yourself to a small serving (3/4 of a cup) as you devour a bowl of milk and cereal. It's just not possible. Not only that, but according to Spoon University, this cereal offers very little nutritional value, which means that it has negligible amounts of protein and fiber.

As pointed out by Harvard, too much sugar isn't good for you. Excessive sugar consumption has been linked to obesity and heart ailments. According to The American Heart Association, women should restrict themselves to 24 grams of sugar in a day, while men should have no more than 36 grams. Consuming a major chunk of sugar first thing in the morning can just lead to a sugar high and nothing more, harming your health in the long run. Maybe reach out for a bowl of oatmeal instead?
