A Gramercy Tavern Pastry Veteran and a Bon Appétit Editor Are Opening a Bakery

Miro Uskokovic, who worked in the pastry department of Gramercy Tavern for a decade, and Shilpa Uskokovic, a senior editor at Bon Appétit, are opening Hani’s Bakery, at 67 Cooper Square, near East Seventh Street, in the East Village this fall.

Kisa launches lunch

Starting Friday, August 30, Kisa — the Korean restaurant known for its $32 set menu — will launch an equally minimal two-dish lunch. On the menu is Korean pork bone soup and a Korean take on Japanese tonkatsu. Also this week, Kisa is launching reservations on Resy starting on September 1. Up until now, the restaurant has been walk-ins only, and crowds have lined up for a taste.

A masa-filled bakery is on the way to Queens

Chef Jose Luis Flores, known for De Mole in Williamsburg, will open Masa Madre Artisanal Bakery, at 47-55 46th Street in Woodside, Queens. The New York Post reports churros, tamales, and pan dulce, and sourdough will be on the menu.

A pasta spot inches closer to opening in Brooklyn

Renato Poliafito owns Prospect Heights bakery Ciao, Gloria: This summer, he debuted a cookbook Dolci! but now, he is turning his attention to savory. Across the street from Ciao, Gloria, he will open Pasta Night this fall at 575 Vanderbilt Avenue, near Pacific Street: a “fine casual” dinner spot. Italian sweets will also make an appearance, according to a spokesperson.
