Korean Fried Chicken Spot Donkey Mo’s Closes South Lamar Restaurant
An Austin Korean fried chicken restaurant is going to be closing one of its locations at some point this year. Donkey Mo’s Fried Chicken shuttered its Zilker neighborhood restaurant at 1100 South Lamar Boulevard, Suite 2140 within Lamar Union sometime in July.
“need[s] to release current space and pay more attention to the other location,”
Donkey founder, owner, and chef Youngmin Noh confirmed that the South Lamar restaurant was up for lease. The rental listing — which is no longer active, implying that it’s been leased already — explained that the restaurant “need[s] to release current space and pay more attention to the other location,” referring to the North Loop one at 5312 Airport Boulevard, which is remaining open.
Noh shared with Eater that the team is also working on opening a new restaurant. Bulgogi will serve Korean rice bowls in the Scofield Farms neighborhood at 1700 West Parmer Lane, taking over the former Me So Poke shop. This new restaurant opened as of July 26.
Donkey’s South Lamar restaurant took over what had been Korean barbecue restaurant Jjim’s space in March. Both had been under what was formerly CKN Hospitality group, which is no longer. Instead, Donkey’s and Bulgogi are under the new company NOK.
Before Jjim, the South Lamar space was Italian pizzeria and restaurant Connection Pizza and Bar and New American restaurant Vox Table.
