Manong Serves Colossal Burgers With Filipino Flair

Manong Serves Colossal Burgers With Filipino Flair

Chance Anies, the owner of the much-loved South Philly Filipino spots like Tabachoy, opened his second restaurant, Manong, in a spacious corner location on Fairmount Avenue.

What to order

  • The Bloomin’ Shroom, a crispy fried enoki mushroom ($13), is Manong’s take on a bloomin’ onion, and is an early favorite.
  • Manong’s burger, which comes on Filipino pandesal (a soft, savory bread), is large enough to share, especially when you add a second hefty beef patty ($21). It doesn’t come with fries, but you should get some.
  • Lumpia, a Filipino classic, is also flavorful and skillfully made here ($10).

Best for

With a spacious dining room and relaxed energy, Manong is great for groups, especially if you’re down to share. The ice cream (especially the pandan) is a nice treat to end the meal.

Insider tip

Owner Chance Anies has a young child and has clearly made space for other families to eat comfortably. Early in the evening, the restaurant is full of kids chowing down on fries, burgers, and lumpia.
