Potato donuts with poppy seeds

Potato donuts with poppy seeds

Potato cones with poppy seeds are a popular sweet dish made from simple potato dough. Simply sprinkle the cooked cones generously with ground poppy seeds mixed with powdered sugar and pour over melted butter.

Ingredients · Servings 1 dose
  • 600g potatoes
  • 300 g wholemeal flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • To serve:
  • 4 tablespoons ground poppy seeds
  • 4 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 60 g butter
Method · 50 min
  1. Wash the potatoes thoroughly and boil them in their skins until soft. Then let them cool completely, peel them and grate them finely.
  2. Add the flour, salt, egg and egg yolk to the potatoes. Quickly knead a smooth dough and let it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  3. Take small pieces of dough, shape them into balls in your palms, and then roll them into oblong cones.
  4. In a large pot, bring enough salted water to the boil. Place the doughnuts in the boiling water and cook for another 2-3 minutes after they float to the surface. Cut open one doughnut and check to see if it is evenly cooked inside and the dough is not raw or sticky.
  5. Meanwhile, melt the butter and mix the ground poppy seeds with the powdered sugar.
  6. Remove the cooked cones with a slotted spoon and let them drain briefly. Divide them among plates, sprinkle with poppy seeds and sugar and pour over melted butter.
