Penny Red Beer Co finds a new home

McLaren Vale brewery, Penny Red Beer Co, has found a new home in the region, taking over the former Red Poles site, with plans to create a brewery, dining and entertainment precinct.

The family-owned microbrewery, has been built by Jess and Craig Shipp who originally opened on Pennys Hill Road in The Range, but have now moved to McMurtrie Road in McLaren Vale.

The couple said: “We’ve found ourselves a new home and we’re pretty bloody excited about it.

“We are right in the heart of McLaren Vale, in a beautiful spot, with a whole lot of potential. There’s no grand plan we’re just giving it a go. We have a love of beer, good people and a slightly questionable amount of optimism.”

The couple said they wanted to create a destination for people that is more than simply a brewery.

“We don’t just want to build a brewery and a taproom, we want to build somewhere people actually want to hang out. There will be more music, more events and more reasons to get together.

“The beer and vibes are sorted, the pizzas are still flowing and there will be more food to come – all in good time.

“We’re figuring it out as we go, but we reckon we are onto something pretty good, so come and see what we are building.”

Penny Red still brewing at its Pennys Hill Road site, which now has additional production space thanks to the move. This will mean the team has scope to work on new brews before the kit is relocated to the McMurtrie Road venue.
