Gordon Ramsay's Carbonara Is an Orange Soup and It's Making the Internet Furious

Gordon Ramsay's orange carbonara is causing a stir online. He's probably the most famous chef in the world, but perhaps a great chef can make a terrible carbonara. We don't actually know, as we haven't tried it, but some photos posted online have already sparked outrage and discussion.

Gordon Ramsay's Carbonara

Ramsay is currently the chef at Union Street Café in Southwark, London. From there, he posts a video of himself plating up the famous Roman dish, which, like many other Italian dishes, is on the restaurant's menu. Gordon can be seen rolling up the spaghetti, which is soaked in a thick, creamy sauce, a deep yellow that almost reaches orange hues. In this morass of egg (and cream?) are strips of pancetta (bacon?). Gordon finishes the dish with a sprinkling of pepper.

Reading the comments, especially from Italians, makes it clear how little it was appreciated. Chiara Valerio: “My God.” Marco Seveso: “Too much egg yolk, where is the “guanciale” (cheek lard), where is Pecorino cheese? It looks like a soup.” Simone Leoni: “They don't know, forgive them.” Giovanni DiCaprio: “Carbonara is a dry dish, no souse, just egg youth and pecorino cheese.” Giulia Di Massa: “I'd stick with the fillet Wellington.”
