Serea Coastal Cuisine
Helmed by executive chef JoJo Ruiz, the flagship restaurant of the legendary Hotel Del Coronado boasts expansive views of the sea. Several dining options can accommodate 18 to 30 people, including an elegant private dining room with 22 seats for an intimate gathering or an upper terrace space with ocean views. The menu focuses on sustainable seafood and Mediterranean dishes; be sure to try the charcoal-grilled octopus or the mushroom kofta flatbread topped with pomegranate.
Callie
In addition to a full restaurant buyout for up to 250 people, there are a couple of other options for an intimate gathering. Wow guests by booking the Dali Room, which can accommodate up to 18 people for an intimate family-style dinner. With glass doors separating the space from the rest of the restaurant, it offers an up-close look at the activity in the kitchen. Animae
Animae’s dedicated private event space, Nima, has large floor-to-ceiling windows for dramatic views of the city skyline and an upside-down zen garden hanging overhead. The room can accommodate up to 75 people for events. Another area to consider is the Heart, secluded by curtains, which can seat 60 seated and up to 75 standing. Seneca Trattoria
Perched high on the rooftop of the InterContinental Hotel, the Italian trattoria with old-timey Titanic ship vibes has a private dining room overlooking the San Diego Bay. Tucked away from the main dining area, the well-designed private dining space is perfect for parties of 9 to 14 people for dining on Roman dishes and local seafood plates. The prix fixe menu, which has a choice of three or four courses, is served family-style. Make sure to try the truffle arancini, pizza, and cocktails.
Garibaldi

Herb & Wood
Find a few distinct private dining options at Brian Malarkey’s flagship San Diego restaurant, helmed by executive chef Carlos Anthony. The Lavender Lounge for 40 people encompasses indoor and outdoor space centered on a two-sided fireplace. The Patio is secluded in a garden courtyard with seating for 60. Herbert’s has sweeping windows reaching its barrel-vaulted ceilings and an entrance for up to 80 people. The Loft is a semi-private space for 12 to 24 people.
Mister A's

Bleu Bohème
This French restaurant in Kensington has a quaint dining space for 16 people. Reminiscent of a Bordeaux country home, the private Stone Room has exposed wooden beams, an overhead rectangular chandelier, and, of course, stone walls. Bookings begin between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. nightly and are reserved for the party for the entire evening. Common Theory
Started by friends who infused their Korean, Chinese, and Mexican heritages into their restaurant, the casual Convoy District gastropub serves comfort dishes like burgers, crispy chicken wings, pork sisig rice bowl, and chicken katsu. More than 30 draft beers selected from San Diego County and across the country are offered on tap. With sofas, picnic tables, several televisions, and an outdoor patio, segments of the space can be rented out or a buyout for up to 300 people. Hidden away in a corner is its dreamy speakeasy, Realm of 52 Remedies, which requires a separate reservation.
Le Coq
La Jolla’s dreamy French steakhouse, helmed by James Beard-nominated chef Tara Monsod, has semi-private sections that can accommodate from 40 to 80 people seated. A spacious bar welcomes guests at the entrance before they venture to the whimsical dining area.
Marisi
The charming restaurant in La Jolla has stunning rooms from the front patio, which seats up to 32 seated guests, to the Lemon Room, nestled in the back, which seats up to 22 people. For parties between nine and 14 people, chef Cameron Ingle offers two options for four-course meals, priced at $75 and $110.
NINE-TEN Restaurant & Bar
The restaurant offers fine dining dishes from chef Jason Knibb. Housed in a European-style boutique hotel, the restaurant has a few areas available for private bookings. The Sun Room is illuminated with a skylight, a marvelous fireplace, and windows overlooking the Pacific. The Parlor Room, which can host up to 20 people, has French-paned windows and 13-foot ceilings decorated with elegant crown moldings. George's at the Cove
With floor-to-ceiling views of the ocean, the recent renovations of the Level 2 private event space are spectacular, with flexible seating and communal tables, accommodating up to 80 people. The Marine Room
This iconic waterside restaurant in La Jolla centers seafood dishes and can seat up to 230 people. The Lounge at the Marine Room can be booked for parties of 30 people with an option to reserve the semi-private plateau for 10. Other private and semi-private booking options in the main dining room can accommodate 46 to 120 guests.
Din Tai Fung
Taiwan’s legendary soup dumpling restaurant lives up to its global reputation in the Westfield UTC mall. Diners can marvel at the rigorous dumpling-making process in the open window when they first walk into the dumpling mecca. A sought-after private dining room holds up to 14 people and is available for reservations between Monday and Thursday. Addison
Located on the Carmel Valley hillside in Fairmont Grand Del Mar, the region’s first three-star Michelin restaurant has two options for private dining with bespoke menus customized by chef William Bradley whose seasonal California cuisine is showcased along with select wine pairings. The Chef’s Table seats up to 12 people with a view of the well-organized kitchen stations, while a separate, 1,580-square-foot dining room with access to its own terrace can host 38 people.
Pamplemousse Grille
Caterer and chef Jeffrey Strauss works with parties of eight or more to customize its French menus and wine pairings from its collection of 1,500 bottles. Popular private dining highlights include the smoking seafood medley with smoked lobster, shrimp, scallops, and salmon on a potato galette with caviar pepper beurre blanc. The quirkily decorated Cow Palace, ripe for conversation starters, seats up to 45 people, while the eclectic Wine Room, with guitars on the wall, can accommodate 12.
CUCINA enoteca Del Mar
The Flower Hill Promenade restaurant features an upstairs garden patio that can be transformed into a private dining oasis for up to 54 seated diners. Other options include the Glass Dining Room for 78 people or the East Dining Room for 48. The SoCal Italian kitchen offers several group dining options, from family-style to plated a-la-carte dishes, which can all be paired with a selection of 200 wines.
Avant
The anchor restaurant at this North County resort focuses on French and new American dishes at Rancho Bernardo Inn’s signature restaurant. A large on-site chef’s garden supplies the kitchen with vegetables, herbs, and fruits. The three private dining options include a private chef’s table for 12 people, El Biz for 20 people, and La Taberna for 50 people with a view of a golf course. Must-try dishes include chef’s garden lettuces, wagyu striploin, whole roasted branzino, and tres leches flan.
Ember & Rye
A Richard Blais project led by executive chef Jon Bautista, the steakhouse restaurant sits on the 18th green of the Aviara Golf Club with views of the Battiquitos Lagoon. One private dining room can accommodate up to 14 people, and the other can seat up to 50. A few menu highlights include the ahi tuna tostada with toasted coconut, swordfish prime rib, and the beef rib chop “storm breaker cut,” a 40-ounce cut of Brandt Family Beef with seasonal vegetables.
Ponto Lago
Located in the Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, the cheery restaurant with an open kitchen features Baja California cuisine. The two private dining room spaces can host up to 14 diners, and the larger one can accommodate up to 25. The ceviche tour, pork belly al pastor, and whole branzino are a few of the menu highlights from chef Pierre Albaladejo. Be sure to imbibe from the restaurant’s expansive mezcal and tequila menu.
Allmine
This neighborhood restaurant in Oceanside is a cozy gem, slinging inventive pizzas made with fresh dough and lasagna with Mornay sauce poured tableside. With over a decade of hospitality experience, owner Roxana Pavel welcomes guests in her small, friendly space, offering the bar area with hi-top tables and a main dining area for buyouts or partial rentals. Valle
One of the few Michelin-starred Mexican restaurants in the United States, the Oceanside restaurant hosts a chef’s table experience, kicking off with a welcome cocktail, followed by eight courses paired with wine from Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico. The meal takes place in the buzzy kitchen, giving diners an insider perspective of how chef Roberto Alcocer prepares the seasonal dishes. While most of the courses change each night, the chef includes a taco plate and bread loaf made from his grandma’s recipe.
