Purple is the new green: Schulstad Bakery Solutions brings color with Ube-Bun

Making a bold statement in the premium segment: Lantmännen Unibake, under the Schulstad Bakery Solutions brand, is launching the Purple Bun, a vibrant purple burger bun, this fall. Inspired by the global hype surrounding the Philippine ube root, this new product is the ideal foundation for high-impact promotions.

“With the Purple Bun, we are catering to the growing need of restaurateurs to stand out from the competition through innovative, aesthetic concepts,” explains Annette Trostheide, Marketing Director of Lantmännen Unibake Germany.

Gentle sweetness meets maximum versatility

The burger bun is colored exclusively with natural ingredients, such as the ube root. However, the bun doesn't just impress visually, but also with its unique flavor profile. The subtle, slightly nutty sweetness and the delicate vanilla notes of the ube root give it a mild character. This makes the purple bun incredibly versatile: it harmonizes perfectly with savory burgers like pulled pork, juicy beef, or flavorful plant-based alternatives, and is equally suitable for creative, sweet dessert applications and exceptional breakfast or brunch creations.

Highest quality and easy handling for the professional kitchen

The buns are characterized by a moist, soft crumb and an excellent texture with a long hold-up time without becoming soggy – a clear advantage for delivery concepts and counter sales. The product is delivered frozen and pre-sliced. The burger bun is approximately 110 millimeters (4.5 inches) in diameter and comes in boxes of 2 x 15 buns. Thanks to the thaw-and-serve principle, it is ready to use immediately after a short thawing period.
