Few Indian restaurants have achieved the level of recognition that Gymkhana enjoys in London, boasting two Michelin stars and a reputation built over more than a decade around its interpretation of the cuisine of colonial Indian elite social clubs. Now, that prestige crosses the continent: the restaurant has confirmed its debut in Dubai, within the District International Financial Centre (DIFC), as part of its first expansion outside the UK.
The new space will occupy two levels and will have seating for 137 diners, in addition to a terrace designed for the city's warm evenings. The menu will maintain the signature style that made the original London restaurant famous: dishes such as tandoor-cooked lamb ribs and biryanis, served in an atmosphere that blends the elegance of historic clubs with a much more contemporary energy.
The arrival of Gymkhana confirms something that has been repeated in Dubai's gastronomic scene for the last two years: the city has become the natural destination for Europe's most coveted restaurant brands to test their first major international expansion, betting on a public accustomed to excellence and willing to pay for it.
