Reiwa Soba Honten offers a range of moreish soba and other Japanese dishes in an interesting place: under a HDB block in Bedok

The ground floor of a HDB block in Bedok Reservoir seems like the last place you’d find a classy Japanese eatery, but Reiwa Soba Honten proves otherwise.

Known for their excellent range of soba dishes, Reiwa Soba Honten makes its noodles freshly every day, using only 100% buckwheat to ensure a silky, dense texture. One must-try soba dish here is the REIWA Pork Soba ($13+).

This cold noodle dish is complemented with succulent Spanish white pork slices and a warm spicy dipping sauce that adds a piquant dimension to your meal. Do note that you can adjust the spiciness levels of this sauce. For a unique take on cold soba, order the Sansho Spicy Mazesoba ($15+).

The noodles here are topped with Sichuan pepper-infused minced pork, leek, alfalfa sprouts, tenkatsu AKA crunchy tempura bits, nori and a homemade sesame sauce. The result is a dish that’s numbing, cooling, and umami-filled, all at the same time. There are also hot soba options here.

These include the Seabream Kake Soba ($15+), served in a warm savoury broth and accompanied by fresh sea bream sashimi slices, leek, wakame, and yuzu peel. Aside from noodle dishes, Reiwa Soba Honten also offers some satisfying rice dishes, sides, drinks and more.

If you’re a fan of Japanese food, you’ll definitely find something to enjoy at this under-HDB eatery. For affordable soba and udon in the CBD with nett prices, read our Tokyo Soba review.
