This restaurant has the best guest reviews worldwide
According to TripAdvisor, "Fogón Asado" in Buenos Aires is the best restaurant in the world. It serves a set menu centered around Argentinian asado – cooked directly on the grill.
Anyone in Buenos Aires craving good meat doesn't have to look far. Argentinian asado is part of the country's culinary DNA. The restaurant "Fogón Asado," however, takes the tradition to an unusual level: Here, the barbecue isn't simply served, but presented as a tasting experience – with different cuts, explanations, and a set sequence. For this, the restaurant has now been awarded the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Best of the Best Award as the best restaurant in the world.
Asado as a tasting
The concept is less reminiscent of a classic steakhouse and more like a wine tasting. Guests sit at a round table directly around the grill, while course after course is prepared over the fire in front of them. Guests can choose between menus with nine or fourteen courses.
It's not just about which cut of beef is on your plate. The team explains the different cuts, breeds, and regions of origin, as well as how the animals are fed. The meat thus becomes the focus of a culinary tasting, and the grill transforms into an open kitchen.
The dining experience is also part of the concept: Meals begin at set times for lunch and dinner, allowing guests to be guided through each course together. Those wishing to drop in spontaneously might encounter difficulties. Reservations are generally required.
From an unassuming entrance to a TripAdvisor winner
That this particular restaurant is at the top of the TripAdvisor rankings isn't immediately apparent from the outside. "Fogón Asado" in the Palermo district presents a rather unassuming appearance. It now even has two locations there.
The composition of the team is also noteworthy: around half of the grill staff are women. In a country where asado is traditionally a male-dominated activity, this is quite unusual.
Not just for meat lovers
While the focus is initially very much on meat, the concept is not entirely consistent in this respect. "Fogón Asado" even offers vegetarian and vegan menus.
The TripAdvisor award is based on guest reviews, not on a jury of restaurant critics. Therefore, the more than 4,300 reviews with an average rating of 4.9 out of five stars speak for themselves at "Fogón Asado".
