Ardbeg Dolce, where single malt meets Sicily - Gastroattitude. Passion for food
Recommended retail price €99
Ardbeg, a cult distillery among lovers of whiskies with the most complex, profound, and saline expressions, established a tradition some years ago of presenting a special edition of its single malt each year at a festive celebration—Ardbeg Day. While these limited editions, which are usually experimental—and often quite eccentric—versions of its most famous single malt, Ardbeg Ten, were traditionally unveiled at the party held at the distillery's facilities on the remote island of Islay, these events are now replicated in other parts of the world, much to the delight of the brand's devoted fans across the globe.
Ardbeg and La Dolce Vita
Thus, the new special edition, Ardbeg Dolce, corresponding to this year 2026, was presented on May 30th in Germany, with a celebration evoking the spirit of La Dolce Vita. Scotland and Italy united in a single malt that is truly unparalleled. The new whisky is now arriving in Spain, in a very limited number of bottles, so that local Ardbeg enthusiasts also have the opportunity to taste the latest creation crafted by the master blenders at the Islay distillery.
The sweet sensations of Marsala
The first thing to say is that Ardbeg Dolce is anything but "sweet." Or rather, very little, if anything. Perhaps only in its aromatic expression. Herein lies the novelty of this edition: a second maturation in casks seasoned with Marsala wine, which adds nuances of orange peel, ripe apricot, chocolate, and vinous notes to the characteristic accents of an Islay single malt, rich in smoky, saline, and nutty notes, with the classic peat that envelops the overall expression. The palate is powerful and enveloping, yet no less harmonious and elegant, with an intense and lingering finish. In short, a singular whisky well worth trying, reminiscent of La Dolce Vita and the unexplored possibilities of a multifaceted spirit that always offers us yet another experience. Hallelujah!
