Sand cake with an autumn motif - Recipe

🎃 A sand cake with an autumn motif. I was expecting some lovely guests, so I made their favorite sand cake. They were surprised to find an autumn motif inside – a pumpkin-like pattern! You can adapt this idea with other motifs, depending on the occasion. ❤️

Preparing a sand cake with an autumn motif:

Step 1 Melt the butter in a saucepan and set aside to cool.

Step 2 Crack the eggs into a bowl, add powdered sugar and vanilla sugar, and mix everything until fluffy.

Step 3 Sift both flours and baking powder into the mixture. Add the melted, cooled butter and blend again until smooth.

You might find this Dr. Oetker Retro-Style Strainer with a Wooden Handle, 10 cm in diameter and 24 cm long, useful. Perfect for sifting flour, powdered sugar, or cocoa.

Step 4 Divide the dough into two parts. Add all the yellow food coloring and half the red food coloring to the first, then mix thoroughly. Cover the second half with plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out.

Step 5 Grease a 25 x 11 cm cake tin with butter and sprinkle with flour, then pour the colored part of the dough into it and bake in an oven preheated to 180°C for about 60 minutes.

Step 6: Leave the baked cake in the pan for about 10 minutes, then remove it and set aside to cool completely. Cut the cooled cake into slices as thick as a pumpkin-shaped cake pan (you can also use an apple-shaped cake pan). Carve out a pumpkin from each slice.

Step 7: Wash the baking tin after baking, butter it again, and dust it with flour. Arrange all the cut pumpkins in a row running down the center of the baking tin, closely spaced, leaving small gaps along the long sides of the tin. Briefly mix the remaining dough again, spoon it into the tin to fill any gaps and cover the "pumpkins." Smooth the top, and bake for approximately 60 minutes at 180°C.

Step 8 After baking, let the cake rest in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it to a wire rack to cool. Once cooled, dust the cake with powdered sugar.

The Wilton Cake and Cookie Cooling Rack can be useful. It allows cakes to cool faster and evenly, preventing them from getting soggy. The non-stick coating prevents the cake from sticking. A great gadget for your kitchen!
