France: Gourmet getaways and local discoveries
For me, France is as much a recipe as a landscape. A Basque cake still warm in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, an ice cream enjoyed facing the ocean, lunch in a hidden inn, a market in Provence or a glass of wine shared at sunset.
Over the years, I have filled this blog with great addresses, gourmet trips, exciting producers, regional specialties and discoveries, sometimes very well known… sometimes completely unexpected.
Here are my walks, good addresses and discoveries across France, region by region.
Why France is a paradise for food lovers
Because here, you can experience a completely different landscape and cuisine within just a few kilometers. One morning you might be enjoying a galette in Brittany, the next you're savoring a piperade in the Basque Country, then you might stumble upon a village pastry shop, a fragrant market, or a cheese you've never even heard of. France has this slightly annoying knack for always having a specialty up its sleeve.
What I love most is this very tangible diversity: the products, the landscapes, the artisans, the markets, the inns, the simple or more gourmet restaurants. Each region tells a story on the plate. Sometimes with butter. Sometimes with olive oil. Sometimes with both, because after all, why choose?
And that's exactly what you'll find here: getaways, great places to eat, encounters, regional recipes and local discoveries, gleaned from my gourmet travels in France.
From big cities to small villages, from starred restaurants to hidden inns, France remains for me an inexhaustible playground when it comes to cuisine, local produce and lovely encounters.
There's always a market to stroll through, a specialty to taste, a fascinating producer to meet, or a regional recipe to take back to your kitchen. And believe me, we'll never run out of delicious treats .
