Procedure for preparing Halloween donuts

To make these donuts, we start with the dough, so we prepare all the necessary ingredients on a work surface. Then, place the two flours in a large bowl, mix with a spoon, add the sugar, and continue mixing. Add the grated lemon zest and the dried yeast, mix again, then pour in the warm milk and the diced butter.

Knead the dough with your hands until smooth, shape it into a loaf, and wrap it in plastic wrap. Place it in a warm, draft-free place and let it rise for a couple of hours, until doubled in size.

After the rising phase we can take the dough and roll it out on a sheet of baking paper and then make the donuts, choosing the pastry cutter, as for the diameter, 6cm or 8cm is also fine.

Place the donuts one at a time on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, space them apart, and let them rise for an hour. After the hour, bake at 180°C for 20 minutes, remove from the oven, and let them cool. In the meantime, you can get started on the icing.

Divide the powdered sugar in half (sifted sugar is recommended) and place it in a bowl with 2-3 tablespoons of water. Add the purple food coloring. In the other bowl, combine the remaining powdered sugar, water, and orange food coloring. Stir well and then pour the glaze over the donuts. For chocolate donuts, simply melt the glaze in a double boiler or in the microwave. Decorate the donuts as desired. Serve and enjoy.

Happy Halloween!
