- Take out a large board, platter, or several serving plates to give yourself enough space to arrange all the elements without crowding them. Also, prepare a few small bowls for the honey, fig jam, whole-grain mustard, and hazelnut puree. Place everything in front of you to easily organize the rest of the dish and create a generous presentation that's practical for sharing and pleasing to the eye.
- Cut the country bread into slices that are neither too thin nor too thick so they remain easy to top. Do the same with the baguette, slicing it at a slight angle if you prefer a more elegant presentation. Then open the packet of crackers and keep them whole. You can group the breads on one side of the board to create a clean base for the cheeses, charcuterie, and spreads.
- Place the fresh cheese in a small bowl or directly into quenelles on the board using two spoons. Pour the hazelnut puree into a separate container for easier serving. Cut the Parmesan into shavings, shards, or small, irregular pieces, depending on the desired style. Also place the fig jam, whole-grain mustard, and honey in small ramekins so everyone can serve themselves neatly and create their favorite combinations.
- Arrange the slices of cured ham by gently folding or rolling them to create volume. Cut the dry sausage into even slices if it isn't already, then arrange them in a line, a rosette, or small piles. Vary the shapes and placement to avoid a uniform look. This creates a savory element that's easily visible, easy to grab, and perfect for a casual get-together.
- Wash the pears, figs, grapes, and apples thoroughly. Cut the pears and apples into quarters or thin slices, removing the cores. Halve or quarter the figs, depending on their size, to showcase their flesh. Remove the grapes from their stems if you prefer a more convenient serving. Then, scatter these fruits in small touches on the board to add freshness, color, and a lovely autumnal feel.
- Wash the radishes and cucumber, then dry them thoroughly to avoid wetting the cutting board. Slice the radishes into thin rounds, or halve them if they are small. Cut the cucumber into sticks, thick slices, or half-moons, depending on the desired effect. For frozen carrot slices, let them thaw completely before using, then drain them if necessary. Arrange all these vegetables in small groups to create a fresh, crisp, and light element.
- Arrange the walnuts, slivered almonds, and cooked chestnuts in the open spaces on the board. You can leave the walnuts in pieces or roughly chop them for a simpler presentation. The chestnuts can remain whole or be halved for easier snacking. Alternate these elements with the fruit and cheeses to create visual interest, enrich the textures, and reinforce the autumnal theme of the arrangement.
- Take a moment to balance the arrangement of all the ingredients. Distribute the colors, textures, and flavors across the board so that each area is visually appealing. Place small bowls of sauces and spreads within easy reach. Drizzle honey over the cream cheese or near the Parmesan if desired. Serve immediately to preserve the freshness of the fruit, the crispness of the vegetables, and the softness of the bread.
