More PDO and PGI products in Milan markets thanks to a protocol with Lombardy

The Lombardy Region and Sogemi sign a memorandum to promote PDO and PGI products in the Milan Food Market and its 15 neighborhood markets.

The memorandum aims to promote high-quality agricultural and agri-food production, particularly products certified as PDOs and PGIs, by supporting short, local supply chains. The PDO economy in Lombardy is valued at €2.9 billion, and the region boasts 34 certified products: 20 PDOs and 14 PGIs.

The initiative will include information, communication, food education, and promotional activities aimed at businesses, consumers, and professionals in the sector. It also includes visits to Lombardy agri-food companies and educational farms accredited by the Region, as well as initiatives to promote typical Lombardy products in all urban markets managed by Sogemi.

Sogemi manages the Milan Food Market, located at Via Cesare Lombroso 54, and its 15 neighborhood markets. Its president, Cesare Ferrero, explains that the products sold by the wholesalers come from all over Italy and the world, but that the company wants to maintain a strong connection with the host region. The market aspires to become a distribution center serving not only the city, but all of Lombardy.

The memorandum, which is programmatic in nature, will be valid for one year from its signing and may be renewed.
