Peasant Girl with Veil dessert recipe

Peasant Girl with Veil dessert recipe

Farmer's Girl with a Veil is a classic Danish dessert that tastes absolutely wonderful!

A delicious apple porridge – which I like to make with a little extra spices – crispy and delicious rye bread crunch and a fluffy whipped cream, as well as blackberry jam which I think goes perfectly with it, but which is not an absolute must.

It is a lovely easy dessert that can be prepared well in advance of serving.

Apple porridge

800 g apple, peeled and diced

1 cup water

½ vanilla bean, seeds removed

1 pinch ground cinnamon

1 pinch of ground cardamom

110g sugar

Rye bread sprinkles

40g butter

250 g rye bread, coarsely grated

75g sugar

For serving

2½ dl whipping cream

4 tablespoons blackberry jam

Apple porridge Boil the apple cubes, water, spices and sugar and let it simmer uncovered for 15 minutes. Stir it during the process and finally cool the porridge in the refrigerator.

Rye bread sprinkles Melt butter in a pan and add rye bread and sugar. Toast, stirring, until the sugar has melted. Let cool.

Whip the cream until fluffy. Divide the applesauce and rye bread sprinkles alternately in layers in a serving glass. Add a spoonful of blackberry jam between one of the layers. Finish with whipped cream and a sprinkle of rye bread sprinkles on top.
