Coopers partners with Visy for national freight

Coopers Brewery has appointed Visy Logistics as its sole national linehaul provider in a move designed to improve distribution efficiency while reducing truck movements across its interstate freight network.

Under the new partnership, Visy Logistics will manage more than 2,000 interstate freight movements each year, transporting Coopers products from Adelaide to key markets including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

The agreement is expected to reduce annual truck movements by six per cent while maintaining the brewery’s existing distribution network. The efficiency gains are supported by Visy Logistics’ investment in 32 new transport assets, including prime movers and B-double combinations, along with the creation of 17 new South Australian jobs across driving, administration and supervisory roles.

The partnership also introduces 36-pallet trailer configurations, replacing standard 34-pallet trailers to increase payload capacity by six per cent per trip. Additional upgrades include enhanced trailer configurations to protect product quality, new safety technologies, Euro 6 prime movers that reduce fuel consumption by five per cent compared with previous-generation vehicles, and greater use of rail and coastal shipping into Western Australia to reduce transport emissions.

Michael Shearer, Managing Director of Coopers Brewery, said the agreement would support the brewery’s continued growth across Australia.

“Coopers beer sales are growing right across Australia and this partnership with Visy Logistics will help ensure our product continues to reach local bottle shops, pubs, clubs and the end consumer as efficiently and reliably as possible.”

Wayne Boxshall, President – Visy Logistics Australia, said the partnership would benefit both businesses while reducing the number of trucks on Australian roads.

“Visy Logistics is excited to partner with a great Australian business built on quality, family values, and generations of experience. By finding a way to meet Coopers’ Australia-wide distribution network with less truck movements, Visy Logistics has found a solution the takes trucks off the road, facilitates future growth and saves money for an iconic Australian brand.”
