Shake Shack Opens At Westgate With Black Truffle Burgers And Fries From 30 October 2021

There’s finally something people in the West can rave about!

Since Shake Shack’s first opening at Jewel Changi Airport in 2019, Westies have only been able to get a taste of their famous New York Angus cheeseburgers in town or at the airport. Opening this Saturday, Shake Shack Westgate will also introduce a brand-new menu of black truffle items.

Situated right beside a brightly lit Sephora, Westgate’s Shake Shack stands out with its mellow ambience. Decked in shades of deep green and hues of wood mahogany, the new space actually gives the neighbourhood shopping hub a major facelift.

In the usual Shake Shack-opening style, a new limited-edition range of menu items will also be available when the eatery opens this Saturday, 30 October 2021. These include a Black Truffle Burger ($14/$17.50), Black Truffle Chick’n Shack ($14) and more.

The Black Truffle Burger comes with a cheese-capped 100% Angus beef patty, nutty arugula leaves, fried shallots, and a black truffle sauce between their regular soft potato buns. Made with mayo and truffle paste, the sauce provided some form of acidity for the burger, but do take note that the truffle essence did take a back seat. That being said, the Black Truffle Burger was still a solid cheeseburger.

Just like it did with the Roasted Garlic Mushroom Burger, the skillfully fried layer of shallots not only gave a boost to the texture of each bite, but also added a hint of saltiness as well. Shake Shack has rewritten the rules of fried chicken burgers with their Black Truffle Chick’n.

This might be my most favourite version of their chicken burger yet. The beautifully fried chicken breast is now embellished with pink house-pickled shallots and fresh arugula leaves to cut through any potential greasiness. There’s also a Crinkle Cut Fries Topped with Black Truffle Sauce ($8.90) that’s a great option for truffle fans looking for something smaller to snack on.

These truffled items will first be available at Westgate, then at the other seven outlets islandwide from 4 November to 31 December 2021. For something sweet, an outlet-exclusive item is their Peelin’ Cherry-fic ($7.50/$9.50) Concrete. It is a spin-off of a classic banana split.

While it looks nothing like our childhood birthday treat, it tastes just like it. There’s a mixture of vanilla and chocolate ice cream, magically mixed with the flavour of bananas. If you haven’t tried any of the Shake Shack classics, you could be spoilt for choice.
