Now, you can add bak chor mee to the list thanks to Orchard Bak Chor Mee, a popular hole-in-the-wall eatery that recently opened at Orchard Plaza. There are only five items here, with the crowd favourite being their Dry Bak Chor Mee Kia ($7.90).

The thin, springy noodles come with minced pork, pork lard, and lettuce. Taste-wise, it’s said to boast a strong flavour thanks to the sauce’s tart, vinegary kick.

Served alongside the dry noodles is a fragrant, piping hot bowl of pork broth generously filled with fishballs, pork slices, pork liver, and fishcakes. The Dry Bak Chor Mee Pok ($7.90) features similar ingredients as its mee kia counterpart, but comes with chewy mee pok noodles instead. If you’re a fan of liver, go for the Dry Liver ($6.90) that’s doused in their house-made chilli sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, and lime to cut through everything.

A soup version is available too if you prefer having your pork liver in a comforting broth. On a rainy day, opt for the Old School Laksa ($7.90), which comes with all the must-haves in a classic bowl of laksa: sliced fishcake, tau gay, tau pok, tau kee, fishball, a hard-boiled egg, and fresh cockles. Cooked using their house-made rempah, the umami-laden laksa broth carries a kick of spice.

Orchard Bak Chor Mee is a cosy 12-seater eatery, which means that snaking queues form easily, especially from 1am to 4am. Don’t let that deter your visit though, as diners typically leave immediately after their meal!
