I underestimated the pub by the football field. Then they brought out the strippers and I quickly changed my mind

Don't expect anything big at the playground.

The phenomenon of pubs on the pitch is as much a part of our country as village football, in other words, an inherent part of it. Wherever there is a game, you will find a refreshment bar or similar gastronomic establishment where you can sit with friends after football, but also at any other time, have a few beers and something to eat.

However, I received a recommendation for an interesting pub that was supposed to surprise me with how good the food was. The combination of a house by the playground and good gastronomy seemed strange to me, so I went to Bistro Na Lajně in Jirny near Prague for a test visit.

Homemade lemonade was a delight

My first impression was very positive. When I entered the bistro, I was greeted by a very nice couple of waitresses who offered me the menu and also offered me a choice of a place to sit. I chose the garden, as long as the weather was still nice and it was nice to sit there.

I had a homemade lemonade to drink, which is prepared here from syrup. However, that doesn't change the fact that it tastes really great. Specifically, I'm talking about the mango and passion fruit flavor. Four deci of refreshing lemonades for 89 CZK seems like a good combination to me.

While I was enjoying the pleasant atmosphere at the football field, where training was currently taking place, I was thinking about what to eat.

The vinegar-flavored fig was a pleasant surprise

Because I had a tip about the tlačenka, which was supposed to be of very good quality, I had to order it. The menu offers portions from 80 to 130 CZK, depending on how much you like this killer snack. In addition to two generous slices, I also received a bowl of finely chopped onions and two jugs on my plate. One had vinegar and the other had water, so I could mix these two liquids exactly how sour I like my tlačenka dressing.

This exceptional affair surprised me very much and, above all, pleased me. Not everyone admires classic vinegar with its traditional pungency. Fresh, delicious bread only complemented the perfect experience of a really very good tlačenka. Lots of meat, no pieces that would be unpleasant to eat. The rumors were not true this time and this local specialty is definitely worth going out for.

In addition to the classic dishes, you can also have pickled herring for 110 CZK, drowned fish for 85 CZK, cracklings in lard for 110 CZK, beer sausages for 110 CZK or meatloaf for 95 CZK.

Strips got me completely

Because I wanted to try some hot food, instead of pizza, which they have in eight varieties for prices ranging from 159 to 169 CZK, I chose chicken strips with fries, coleslaw and barbecue sauce. All for 250 CZK. I was really curious about what to expect in a place that is not primarily dedicated to gastronomy, and now I know that I was premature in my judgment.

I have never eaten such delicious strips. A large piece of chicken wrapped in crispy batter, which was supplemented with the popular cornflakes, tasted absolutely phenomenal. The fries were also impeccable – wonderfully thin, crispy and just the right amount of salt. The imaginary icing on the cake was the barbecue sauce, which added a touch of spice to the meat and the side dish. The coleslaw then pleasantly complemented all the flavors. Without exaggeration, it was a great dining experience.

Final verdict

The summary of my visit to Bistro Na Lajně will be very prosaic. It was great, without a single flaw. Where you would hardly expect perfect food, you get not only that, but also a pleasant atmosphere, nice people all around, and you go home with the feeling that you already know very well where you will soon return with gusto.
