Cola can broiler

Cola can broiler

Defrost any frozen chicken (it will last about 24 hours in the refrigerator). Bring the chicken to room temperature.

Wash the chicken inside and out, and dry it. It is recommended to wear rubber gloves when doing this.

Mix the spices in a mortar and grind them slightly.

Rub the spice mixture evenly over and inside the chicken (and under the skin if you can). Again, wear gloves. Next, rub the oil into the surface of the chicken. However, leave about 1 teaspoon of the spice mixture to mix with the cola.

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.

Wash a cola can (0.33l). Drink half of the cola. Put one teaspoon of the spice mixture in the cola can. Be careful that the cola will bubble a little, so it is best to do this over the sink. Make a few more holes in the top of the cola can.

Place a piece of foil on a baking sheet, and fold it into a "plate" shape (so that any dripping fat doesn't drip into the oven). Place the chicken on top of the can, making sure the can goes into the cavity in the chicken. Place the chicken on top of the foil on the baking sheet, so that it is resting on the cola can and two legs.

Place the chicken in a hot oven. Bake for the first half hour at 200 degrees. Then lower the temperature to 175 degrees. Bake for a total of about 1½ hours.

Remove the chicken from the oven (you can check the doneness of the chicken with a thermometer. The chicken is done when the temperature is 80-82 degrees in the thickest part of the chicken). Let it rest for a moment. Carefully remove the cola can from inside the chicken. You will need a friend's help here. One person holds the chicken and the other pulls the cola can out, be careful the liquid is still almost boiling.

Place the chicken on a serving platter, for example on a cutting board. Serve with rice, curry sauce and a side salad.

Remember to wash all equipment that has been in contact with raw chicken. Dispose of all packaging materials immediately, and wipe down surfaces. This is because microbes on chicken are quite fast to multiply.

You can also cook the chicken on the grill with an indirect flame. The grill temperature should be around 175 degrees. Instead of cola, you can also use beer or cider.
