Michelin-Starred Restaurant Team to Open Korean Steakhouse for the Theater District

Gui is opening February 22, the 130-seat Asian and Korean steakhouse from chef Sungchul Shim behind seasonal Korean tasting menu spot Kochi and hand roll restaurant Mari, both Michelin-starred restaurants.

“This would flip the industry on its head by forcing the companies to act more like employers who hire workers and less like technology companies that facilitate a process from which they are largely removed,”

Flushing’s fish soup spot will open on the Upper West Side

Chinese fish soup restaurant Nai Brother — now with locations in Bensonhurst and Long Island City — is opening on the Upper West Side as reported by West Side Rag, at Broadway between West 108th and 109th streets. The menu is all about Chinese-style fish soups in varying spice levels. The classic comes with pickled mustard greens, peppers, and vegetables; the spicy mala; and the Golden with pickled hot peppers. The menu goes beyond fish with options like mao xue wang with beef tripe, ham, and vegetables. The restaurant also serves its xiaofang beverages, its take on boba. The sibling Flushing location is listed as closed.

Din Tai Fung is now doing takeout

Famous Taiwan import Din Tai Fung — the biggest location in the world here in New York City — now offers takeout dumplings and dishes. It’s online ordering only via dtf.com; diners must pick up takeout during dinner hours at the plaza on the corner of 50th and Broadway next to Equinox. Third-party delivery, like Grubhub, DoorDash, and Uber Eats, is available only during lunch, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tentative city proposal to regulate delivery apps

A proposal created by New York’s City Hall would require that delivery app companies would have to register with the Department of Transportation, as reported by Streets Blog NYC. They’d be on the hook to establish a roster of workers as well as provide trip data that they’d provide to the DOT. “This would flip the industry on its head by forcing the companies to act more like employers who hire workers and less like technology companies that facilitate a process from which they are largely removed,” it reported. Yet worker rights groups are pushing for more employee protections. “Any bill that is introduced with intent to hold companies accountable needs to come with deactivation protections and other additional protections that will protect workers,” said Ligia Guallpa of Worker’s Justice Project.
