The Gran Hotel Taoro reopens on September 15th with Ricardo Sanz and Erlantz Gorostiza at the helm
On September 15th, the legendary Gran Hotel Taoro will reopen its doors, reclaiming its place as one of Spain's most iconic luxury tourism destinations. Founded in 1890, the Taoro was the country's first grand luxury hotel and a symbol of the birth of international tourism in the Canary Islands.
The comprehensive renovation was led by the Tenerife-based studio Dishot Insular, part of the DISHOT Group. The project encompassed all 199 guest rooms and common areas, preserving the building's historical essence while reinterpreting it with an elegant, functional, and sustainable approach. The new Gran Hotel Taoro is conceived as a destination for mindful relaxation, offering a holistic experience that includes gastronomy, wellness, culture, and nature.
A new gastronomic capital in the north of Tenerife
One of the cornerstones of this new phase will be gastronomy, understood as a cultural and sensory experience in harmony with the surroundings. The hotel will house five distinct dining spaces, designed to offer a diverse and authentic culinary experience with high-end standards.
At the heart of this offering are two leading figures in Spanish gastronomy: chef Ricardo Sanz, a pioneer of Japanese-Mediterranean cuisine in our country and holder of a Michelin star, and Erlantz Gorostiza, a chef with two Michelin stars in the Canary Islands and recognized for his precise, technical and creative vision.
Sanz is behind OKA, an exclusive Japanese haute cuisine restaurant with a Mediterranean soul, where Japanese technical rigor is combined with local Canarian produce. Gorostiza, meanwhile, will be at the helm of LAVA, a signature restaurant with a bar seating only 19 diners, offering an intimate and personalized experience, and AMALUR, a more accessible gourmet bistro inspired by the four elements (air, fire, earth, and sea).
In addition to these three spaces, the hotel will feature two other gastronomic offerings yet to be revealed, thus completing a comprehensive and diverse culinary experience, capable of attracting both guests and local and visiting public.
A hotel with soul and a future
The newly renovated Gran Hotel Taoro is more than just a luxury hotel; it's a restored symbol. Its reopening also represents the Tenerife Island Council's commitment to sustainable tourism development, the empowerment of local talent, and the promotion of a more conscious tourism model, deeply connected to culture and the landscape.
Among its new features is a state-of-the-art Wellness Center. The guest experience will be further enhanced by botanical gardens, relaxation areas, cultural programming, and exclusive activities designed to explore the island in a respectful and transformative way.
