Cheese Saganaki: Fried Feta Cheese

This traditional Greek recipe is made with feta, kefalotyri, kefalograviera, halloumi or other specialty Greek cheeses as they do not melt at high temperatures, making them perfect for frying! All you need is a wedge of cheese, and some flour… as well as a little patience as you wait for it to form a golden crust. This recipe is incredibly easy and delicious!

Ingredients

  • 6 slices of feta cheese 2-3 cm (about 1 inch) thick
  • 200 g all-purpose flour
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 200 g sesame seeds
  • pepper
  • sunflower oil for frying

For serving:

  • honey

Instructions

  • In 3 separate bowls, place the flour with a little pepper, lightly whisked eggs, and the sesame seeds.
  • Take each slice of feta and coat with the flour, cover with egg, and then with the sesame seeds.
  • Fry over medium heat until golden.
  • Serve with honey.

Notes

Note: Saganaki is a word used for many other Greek dishes cooked in a special frying pan.
