The Technomic Top 500: Another tough year for chain restaurants

“San Diego has always felt like a natural fit for Goop Kitchen,”

Top 500 chain restaurant sales slowed again in 2025 as consumers cut back on dining, but sectors like coffee, beverages and snacks and chicken thrived The lifestyle brand has grown primarily as a delivery and pickup-only virtual concept.

This opening marks an evolution for the brand. Goop Kitchen is going brick-and-mortar as a dine-in restaurant.

The growing health-focused brand, which is backed by actress Gwyneth Paltrow, on Thursday announced that it has opened its first dine-in restaurant in the One Paseo shopping center in the Del Mar neighborhood of San Diego. Launched initially in Los Angeles, Goop Kitchen has grown primarily as a virtual brand, with its menu available for delivery and pickup only.

According to the website, there are 15 outlets in California and three in New York. The restaurant in San Diego has 92 seats and offers a similar menu available online.

But the dine-in location will also have some new dishes exclusive to the location, like a Field of Greens salad pizza with pesto, garlic confit, mozzarella and parmesan topped with arugula salad; and a Strawberry-Goji Berry Palmer and a Passion Fruit Lemonade. The menu, of course, will also be available for delivery and pickup. The restaurant was designed in collaboration with Paltrow by Michael Hsu Architecture.

“San Diego has always felt like a natural fit for Goop Kitchen,” said Co-CEO Donald Moore, in a statement. “It’s a community that values great food, an active lifestyle, and meaningful time with family and friends. As we thought about where to open our first dine-in restaurant, One Paseo stood out immediately. It’s a beautiful gathering place for families, friends, and neighbors, and the kind of environment where people want to slow down, connect, and enjoy a meal together.”

Clifford The company said more growth is planned for the San Diego area, with future locations coming to La Jolla and the city’s downtown, though it was not clear whether that will include more dine-in units. Goop Kitchen is known for its focus on “clean,” made-to-order food without refined sugar, seed oils or processed additives.

That led to the extension of the brand to Goop Kitchen, which debuted in Los Angeles in 2021.
