This Popular Korean Bakery Has Shio Pan “Bags” With Hotteok And Kaya Butter

Love shio pan? Well, now you can “wear” it.

Popular Korean bakery Noci Bakehouse at Suntec City has just rolled out a new lineup of salt bread “bags”, stuffed with sweet and savoury fillings. The new series comes in three flavours: Hotteok Salt Bread ($7), Basil Cream Cheese Salt Bread ($9), and Kaya Butter Salt Bread ($7).

The Hotteok Salt Bread takes inspiration from the Korean street snack, with a cinnamon and brown sugar filling swirled through the buttery shio pan. It’s also topped with assorted nuts and seeds, which add a satisfying crunch against the sweet, fragrant filling.

Our favourite was the Basil Cream Cheese Salt Bread, which was hefty enough to eat as a meal on its own. The pesto-like cream cheese filling is rich without being too jelak, while the sundried tomatoes add a pleasant tang.

For something more local, the Kaya Butter Salt Bread is Noci’s take on the classic Singaporean breakfast staple. This shio pan comes loaded with thick slabs of butter and pandan kaya, topped with shredded toasted coconut. We enjoyed the contrast between the chewy shio pan, rich butter, and sweet kaya, though the whole thing was a little too jelak for one person.

The Cheddar Cheese Salt Bread ($6.30) is another new addition and easily one of the prettiest of the bunch. It pairs Noci’s signature shio pan with cheddar cheese and biscuits, though the biscuits turned soggy after sitting out for a while.

Beyond the shio pan, the Spring Onion Bagel ($7) is another sizeable option. Despite its hefty appearance, the bagel has a surprisingly light texture, with a distinct crust and a slightly chewy centre.

The cream cheese is rich, while chopped spring onions provide a refreshing contrast. You can also pair your bakes with the Peanut Cream Latte ($7.50).

The coffee comes topped with cold foam and peanut crumbs, which work surprisingly well together. That said, the drink leans more towards dessert than your usual cup of coffee.

Noci Bakehouse is also a comfortable spot to sit down and enjoy your bakes, with enough space for both groups and solo diners. The cosy decor has a cottagecore feel, making it a rather pleasant place to linger. The bakery also has a takeaway counter, where you’ll find a wide selection of fresh bakes to pick and choose from.
