The Technomic Top 500: Another tough year for chain restaurants

Chick-fil-A’s Little Blue Menu converting to traditional location

Top 500 chain restaurant sales slowed again in 2025 as consumers cut back on dining, but sectors like coffee, beverages and snacks and chicken thrived The experimental concept in College Park, Maryland, opened in 2023, two years after making its debut in Nashville.

Chick-fil-A’s delivery-led concept Little Blue Menu will transition its last remaining location in College Park, Maryland, into a traditional restaurant in January, concluding the experiential brand’s 5-year stint. Little Blue Menu debuted in Nashville in 2021, offering innovations such as pizzas topped with Chick-fil-A nuggets, as well as burgers, onion rings, sweet potato tots, and chicken wings. That location closed in 2023, and the company opened its College Park location later that year, featuring a menu available via delivery, mobile pickup, and catering with orders placed through the chain’s app or third-party delivery apps.

In late 2023, Little Blue Menu added a dining room. Streetcar Suburbs first reported this week that the concept will transition to a traditional Chick-fil-A.

The company confirmed the report, writing in a statement to Nation’s Restaurant News, "Since its inception five years ago, Little Blue Menu was designed as a test-and-learn concept. After several successful years exploring new ways to serve guests, the location in College Park will transition to a traditional Chick-fil-A restaurant in 2027.

We are grateful to remain part of the College Park community and look forward to sharing more soon.” Chick-fil-A’s Little Blue Menu has evolved through several iterations since its 2021 debut.

The concept initially offered a variety of menu options across three virtual restaurant brands — Garden Day, Flock & Farm, and Outfox Wings — in Nashville before moving to College Park. In 2023, the concept launched a food truck tour throughout Kentucky, Indiana, and Georgia. Though the concept experimented with culinary innovations, it also served traditional Chick-fil-A menu items.

Notably, Little Blue Menu is one of several test concepts for the chain. About a year ago, Chick-fil-A and its subsidiary Red Wagon Ventures opened Daybright, a beverage-focused concept in Hiram, Georgia, which is about 30 miles west of downtown Atlanta.

Red Wagon Ventures was founded in January 2017 to create new concepts and services beyond Chick-fil-A’s core restaurant business, with a mission of exploring new ventures. Red Wagon Ventures’ initiatives have not only included Little Blue Menu and Daybright, but also Kefi, a family club concept that included a toy store, coffee shop, and daycare that opened in 2019 and closed in 2021, and Acrew Home Professionals, a home services company serving Atlanta-area homeowners.
