Pringles have been bringing the party since 1968, and those scarily snackable chips just got a serious makeover. Arriving right in time for tailgate season, Pringles is rolling out its all-new Pringles Dippers, an extra-thick, wavy version of its classic chip. The new Dippers come in three flavors—Original, French Onion, and Bacon Cheddar.
Going to Pringles, the thicker chips were specifically designed to hold up to game-day dips, so naturally, we had to put them to the test. If you weren’t directly comparing the new Pringles Dippers to a classic Pringles chip, you likely wouldn’t clock much of a difference.
You’re not going to pick one out of the can and be smacked over the head by its heft, but true Pringles fans will be able to notice a slight textural difference. And honestly, I actually think that’s a good thing.
One of the things I love about Pringles is how easy they are to throw back, and these are no different. Since they in addition have the same ingredients and nutrition facts as classic Pringles, you’re mainly getting a little extra crunch.
Do I think these are the best chips for dipping ever made? I put them to the dip test, and two of the three chips I tried broke during the process.
The key, I found, is to hold the chip about halfway down for better leverage while scooping. And I will give them this: The shape is pretty much perfect for dipping.
That told reporters, I’d still reach for the Pringles Dippers. They have a bit more crunch than the regular version, and the flavors were great.
Bacon Cheddar sounded slightly scary at first, but if you love a cheesy chip, you’ll appreciate the subtle smoky notes and baked-cheese savor. French Onion might have been my favorite of the three, with a balanced, creamy onion savor that kept me coming back for more.
And, of course, you can never go wrong with Original.
