When someone suggests eating in Orchard, the first malls that come to my mind are 313 Somerset and ION Orchard.

Actually, the Orchard area is home to countless restaurants and places to eat, some of which are located in Paragon Shopping Centre, just across the street from the aforementioned malls. If you’ve been daunted by the atas vibes of this mall, let me show you 20 places to dine at in Paragon, including peking duck, Wagyu don, and more.

• 1. Wu Pao Chun

New to Paragon is Wu Pao Chun, which opened its second outlet in the mall this May. This Taiwanese bakery stays true to its roots by using Taiwanese ingredients in loaves such as the Lychee Rose Royale ($21.80).

Imbued with a sweet floral taste, the dough contains smatterings of lychee bits and crunchy walnuts that make each slice enjoyable enough to eat on its own. They also have smaller bakes available, including a mochi and peanut butter-filled Nutty Together ($2.90).

• 2. Venchi

Originally a gourmet chocolate manufacturer in Italy, Venchi has now expanded into a worldwide franchise selling stringy, decadent gelato. Reward yourself with a post-dinner treat and try their rich chocolate Cuor Di Cacao, unique Mascarpone and Caramelised Figs, or fan-favourite Pistachio.

• 3. Privé

Privé has several outlets in town, one of which is on the first level of Paragon.

Besides an all-day breakfast menu that includes breakfast classics such as the Ultimate Big Breakfast ($23++), they also offer burgers, salads, mains, pasta, and a range of desserts. Enjoy 200g of Australian ribeye and peppercorn sauce in the Minute Steak and Fries ($29.50++) or shredded mud crab in the Singapore Chilli Crab Spaghetti ($26++) while taking in the view of the busy Orchard stretch.

• 4. Halcyon & Crane

As a cafe with Sichuanese influences, Halcyon & Crane offers relatively unique fusion dishes, including a Dan Dan Spaghettini ($26++).

Spaghettini pasta is cooked with pork ragu in a peanut sesame butter, before it’s topped with crunchy kale and a creamy onsen egg. Don’t miss out on their bestselling Crispy French Toast ($17++) too. Its cereal-crusted brioche comes with drizzles of sweet maple syrup, Chantilly cream, and fresh berries that make for a delightful afternoon treat.

With a concept similar to that of Stuff’d, Superitto is a Mexican takeaway joint that offers burritos, rice bowls, salad bowls, and nacho bowls.

• 6. Porcelain Cafe

Pull out your phones and get ready to snap a pic of Porcelain Cafe’s colourful açai and smoothie bowls. From the cotton candy-coloured Unicorn Dreams ($24) to the magical-looking Starry Galaxy ($24), these bowls are made with the healthiest of ingredients and do not contain any sort of artificial colouring.

Unicorn Dreams, for example, gets its colour from red dragonfruit and coconut yoghurt, while Starry Dreams owes its colour to the house speciality organic açai pulp and Japanese bamboo charcoal powder. Check out our Porcelain Cafe review!

• 7. Greyhound Cafe

To describe Greyhound Cafe’s menu as sprawling would be no exaggeration.

Besides Asian-inspired dishes such as Fresh Vietnamese Spring Rolls ($12++) and Phad Thai with Fresh Prawns ($18++), they also offer Western-style sandwiches, pasta, and burgers. Get the best of both worlds with their fusion Tenderloin Steak with Green Curry Sauce and Rice ($35++), or Spicy Spaghetti Thai Style ($23++), where spaghetti is stir-fried with fresh chilli, peppercorns, and Thai basil leaves to give it a more Asian taste.

• 8. Colonial Club Signatures

Colonial Club Signatures lets you enjoy local favourites in air-conditioned, full-service comfort.

Well-loved dishes such as Fried Kway Teow ($13.90+), Hainanese Chicken Rice ($12.90+), and Seafood Laksa ($18.90+) make an appearance on the menu, but you can also order a range of a la carte dishes to share. It seems the Crispy Garlic Corn ($12.90+), though at first glance unassuming, is actually rather flavourful and addictive, making it a crowd favourite.

• 9. Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck

The Imperial Treasure group has two restaurants in Paragon, one of which is Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck.

As suggested by its name, they specialise in Peking Duck ($108++), which requires an advance booking. It’s much easier to order it as part of the Set Menu (from $138++ per person) though, which will come with a Double-Boiled Chicken Soup, Braised Five Head Whole Fresh Abalone, and Braised E-Fu Noodle with Shredded Duck, amongst other dishes.

• 10. Treasures Yi Dian Xin by Imperial Treasure

Dian xin, which translates to dim sum, is what Treasures Yi Dian Xin does best.

Steamed Prawn Dumplings ($7.20 for four), Pan-fried Carrot Cake ($6 for three), and even Baked Snow Crust BBQ Pork Bun ($6.30 for three) are but a glimpse into the almost 30 types of dim sum available here. While you can order dim sum at Imperial Treasures Super Peking Duck, you cannot order a Peking Duck at Treasures Yi Dian Xin, which is more of a fast-casual concept.

• 11. Le Shrimp Ramen

As one of the many brands under Paradise Group, Le Shrimp Ramen seeks to be a fusion of Japanese and Chinese cuisine with their Japanese ramen broth and Chinese-style la mian. One of the pricier bowls on the menu is the Le Signature Trio Shrimp Ramen ($19.90++), which comes with handmade ebiko prawn paste, prawn dumplings, and fresh prawns in their signature shrimp broth.

If you prefer it dry, get the Ebiko Prawn Paste with Chilli Vinaigrette Ramen ($12.90++), where the same ramen noodles are tossed in a house-made chilli vinaigrette sauce. Unit number: #01-42

• 12. Matsukiya

A kushiyaki concept by Sushi TEI, Matsukiya offers skewers grilled over binchotan, including Buta Bara ($5++), Gyu Tan ($11++), and Shiitake Mushroom ($4++).

However, it seems like most customers end up ordering the Wagyu Foie Gras Don ($55++), where juicy Miyazaki A4 ribeye, duck liver sit atop a bed of Japanese rice. Be smart and order the Set Lunch ($65++), which comes with the aforementioned donburi as well as a starter, entree, soup, and even dessert—totally worth it!

• 13. Kanada-Ya

Kanada-Ya is certainly no new name for ramen enthusiasts, as this ramen restaurant has been drawing queues since it opened. Known for their Truffle Ramen, you can choose to get the Basic ($22.90++), Regular ($24.90++), or Special ($26.90++), all with varying amounts of truffle belly cha shu and other ingredients.

Other interesting flavours include a Spicy Yuzu Ramen (from $16.90++) and a Gekikara Ramen (from $17.90++). ‘Gekikara’ translates to ‘fiercely spicy’ in Japanese, so it’s not hard to guess what this ramen tastes like. Unit number: #04-09

• 14. Shimbashi Soba

Shimbashi Soba often attracts a crowd in front of the restaurant, where the full-length glass windows let us see how their soba is made.

The cheapest bowl of soba here, Kitsune Soba, goes for $14.80++. However, if you’re looking for something more filling than soba with beancurd pockets, fish cake, and seaweed, you can always get the Tempura Seiro ($21.80++), which is served with a plate of tempura on the side.

There’s also Beef Nanban Soba ($19.80++), which comes with stewed beef, a soft-boiled egg, and a variety of other ingredients. If your dining companions aren’t fans of the wheat noodles, udon options are available too. Unit number: #B1-41

• 15. Akashi Japanese Restaurant

Just like any other classy Japanese restaurant, Akashi serves a range of sushi, sashimi, soba, and udon.

Indulge in the freshest cuts of salmon, tuna belly and more, with prices of their platters ranging from $45++ to $87.80++. For those that are not particularly inclined to the taste of sashimi, their Wagyu Steak Don ($59.50++) is another popular choice amongst diners for its juicy cuts of Wagyu and creamy onsen egg. • 16. PS.Cafe

Similar to Privé, PS.Cafe has a variety of burgers, sandwiches, mains, and pasta. With grilled chicken, smoked bacon, spinach, and mixed mushrooms that are coated in a garlic tomato cream sauce, the Chicken Rossa Penne ($27++) is definitely a hearty dish.

You can also opt for the hearty PS. Burger. At $29.50++, two toasted sesame buns sandwich a thick Australian barley-fed Angus patty, smoked bacon, vintage cheddar, spinach, tomato and onions.

And of course, it is simply a must to get their signature PS. Truffle Shoestring Fries ($19++), which are drizzled in fragrant truffle oil, grated Parmesan, and parsley.

• 17. Tambuah Mas

As one of the few halal-certified restaurants in Paragon, Tambuah Mas has a range of comforting Indonesian dishes that will satisfy every member of the family. The Kepala Ikan Istimewa ($37++), which comes with an entire fish head, is sure to win anyone over with its sour and spicy assam sauce.

Other items worth getting include the Ayam Goreng Istimewa ($15++), fried chicken coated in a golden spice blend, and the Tahu Telor ($13.50++)—tofu fried in an egg batter before being drizzled with house-made dark sauce. Unit number: #B1-44

• 18. So Pho

Though So Pho is most known for their warm bowls of Pho Noodle Soup (from $9.80++), they have a pretty decent array of other Vietnamese staples too.

Besides stuffed Banh Mi (from $6.50++) and Grilled Lemongrass Beef with Rice ($12.80++), do yourself a favour and order a plate of Goi Cuon ($5.60++ for two). Each summer roll is packed with prawns, grilled chicken, ham, and lettuce, but you can also get ones with Softshell Crab ($8.20++ for two) or Beef ($6.40++ for two) if you so please.

• 19. Fish & Co.

Fish & Co. definitely doesn’t shy away from variety when it comes to their fish and chips. Each plate comes with a different sauce, such as the curry mayonnaise dip in the Bombay Fish & Chips ($19.95++), and the lemon butter sauce in the New York Fish & Chips ($20.95++), which is also stuffed with Parmesan cheese.

Kind Kones stands out from other ice cream cafes because of their vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, refined sugar-free options. Popular flavours here include the Salted Chocolate Chip ($5.90), Charcoal Vanilla ($7.90), and a matcha and butterfly pea-flavoured Blue Planet ($7.90).
