Savoureux: Muslim-Friendly French Restaurant In Jalan Besar

While there are a few French-Japanese restaurants in Singapore, most of them aren’t halal-friendly. Savoureux in Jalan Besar is unique in that it offers delectable French-Japanese fare, while also being a Muslim-owned eatery.

Savoureux is currently helmed by Chef Hisyam Mustafa, whose family has been in the F&B business for over 50 years. Having helped them out since he was a child, Chef Hisyam has brought his experience into Savoureux, which he says will “allow families to enjoy food made from the heart”. To start, get the French Onion Soup ($12.90++), AKA soupe à l’oignon et boeuf.

This classic French dish features hearty chunks of beef and toast covered in cheese, which lets you get that ‘gram-worthy cheese pull. As for mains, the Duck Leg Confit ($23.90++) is a must-try. Starring a slightly crispy on the outside, succulent on the outside duck leg atop fragrant truffle mashed potatoes in a berry sauce, this satisfying meat dish is a delight to the senses.

Being a French-Japanese restaurant, Savoureux also has spin-offs of typical Japanese dishes such as udon. Their Ryu Udon ($23.90++) has chewy udon noodles, Angus beef slices, and sous vide egg all in a spicy yet comforting broth.

Besides the wide spread of starters and mains, Savoureux offers unique, non-alcoholic drinks and desserts, too. Our favourite is the Butterscotch Beer ($12++), which sees a sweet toffee soda topped with thick, creamy foam. Do note that from now till 31 October 2024, DBS and POSB cardmembers can get 1-for-1 for any mains here on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
