Minatamis Na Saging (Sweetened Bananas)

Minatamis na Saging Saba, or sweetened banana, is a delicious Filipino dessert that is very easy to make and the loved by the entire family.

Minatamis Na Saging (Sweetened Bananas)

The Philippines stands as one of the world’s top banana exporters, offering a wide array of banana varieties. While each boasts its distinct characteristics, it’s the Saba or burro bananas that take the spotlight when making this delicious treat. To get the best results, the chosen bananas should be perfectly ripe, yet still firm.

Since it only takes 3-4 ingredients to prepare this dish, why not give it a try? It’s so good that you may want to have it all to yourself, but it’s best enjoyed together with your loved ones. It pairs wonderfully with milk and shaved ice, and it’s a fantastic addition to another beloved Filipino dessert: halo-halo.

Enjoy!

Instructions

  • Bring the water to a boil in a medium-sized pan.
  • Stir in the sugar until it completely dissolves and let it simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Add the bananas and simmer for another 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce begins to thicken. Taste it to determine if more brown sugar is required, and add as necessary.
  • Next, mix in the vanilla extract and lemon peel and continue cooking while stirring for an additional minute.
  • When the bananas have cooked through, turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool. Transfer it to a serving plate and savor the flavors!
