Customers Say These 2 Burger Chains Sell A High-Quality And Filling Fish Sandwich

Whether you're driving home after work or struck by a late-night craving, chances are there are plenty of places where you can pick up a decent burger. But if you've got a crispy fish sandwich on the mind, you might need to dig a little deeper for a spot that serves one worth its (sea) salt.

“Always piping hot, super crispy, amazing flavor. I have absolutely no clue what fish they use; whatever it is, it is satisfying.”

The twofer fast food restaurant (which operates under either Checker's or Rally's, depending on the region) serves up two seafood bites: a basic fish sandwich featuring one crispy filet and the extra-filling Deep Sea Double. It's the latter offering, which consists of two filets topped with melty American cheese, iceberg lettuce, and tartar sauce, that has fans of the merged chain gushing. "It is absolutely fantastic," raved one Reddit user. "Always piping hot, super crispy, amazing flavor. I have absolutely no clue what fish they use; whatever it is, it is satisfying." Another customer said, "I really enjoyed it. Good amount of fish... Definitely preferred it over Burger King or Arby's."

Checker's and Rally's deep sea double spotlights a popular white fish

As for which type of fish you can find fried and stacked inside the toasted sesame bun? Checker's and Rally's have noted the company uses 100% wild Alaskan pollock in its standard sandwich and beloved Deep Sea Double. Those familiar with the seafood sandwich landscape may recognize that as the same type used in McDonald's famous Filet-o-Fish. The wild-caught white fish, which is often compared to cod, is a popular pick for fast food filets due to its mild taste, tender and flaky texture (which lends itself well to frying), and, of course, its affordability. At Checker's and Rally's, the Deep Sea Double is available for around $5, while the single crispy fish sandwich is priced at around $4 (prices vary by location).

Although customers agree the double-stacked sandwich offers a filling amount of fish, you can make the sandwich even heartier by opting for additional toppings. Checker's and Rally's allows diners to request extra cheese, tomatoes, red onions, and pickles. You can even add fries to the sandwich for just 50 cents, an ingenious move if you want to take a page from the Brits and give the sandwich a fish and chips inspired twist. If you don't happen to live near a Checker's or Rally's location, though, you can always forgo the drive-thru and check out our tips for making a restaurant-quality fish sandwich at home. (Don't forget the Alaskan pollock — or the all-important tartar sauce.)
