Making puff pastry braids with milk cream
To make this delicious recipe, start by preparing the cream by pouring the cornstarch into a bowl and adding the vanilla. Begin by dissolving it in a few tablespoons of sweetened milk and stirring well. Heat the milk in a saucepan until just below boiling. Pour it over the cornstarch mixture, a little at a time, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil and stir until thickened, then let it cool.
Roll out a roll of puff pastry on a work surface. Using a smooth-bladed knife or a pastry cutter, cut it in half, creating about 10 strips per side, each about 2 centimeters thick. (The number varies depending on how thick you prefer them.) Take a little cream and pour it onto each strip; you can also use a pastry brush or a teaspoon. Fold the strips over and twist them slightly, creating a braided shape.
Arrange the braids on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush them with a mixture of egg yolk and a little beaten milk. Dust with sugar, if desired. Bake the braids in a preheated convection oven at 180°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes. Once cooked, remove from the oven and let cool completely before serving. Enjoy!
