“Even after washing, the silicone is still sticky...” Reset it in one go! Just leave it for a while using two things you have at home and it's completely clean!
Silicone items, often found in cookware, tend to leave a sticky residue and odor even after washing with dish soap. But did you know that you can easily get rid of that stickiness using common household items?
Just leave it! Easy steps to remove silicone stickiness
No matter how many times you wash it with dish soap, that sticky residue unique to silicone is hard to remove. Before you give up and think, "I guess I have no choice but to buy a new one...", there's a method I'd like you to try. It's a simple method that doesn't require scrubbing and only involves soaking it using common household items. This time, I'll be cleaning a silicone cooking spoon that I use a lot when making curry at home. [What you'll need]
Baking soda: about 1 tablespoon
Vinegar: about 1 tablespoon
Hot water: 40-50 degrees Celsius
Bowl or similar container for the hot water [Instructions]
1. Fill a bowl with hot water so that the areas that feel sticky are fully submerged.
2. Add about 1 tablespoon each of baking soda and vinegar.
Because it fizzes and bubbles, a deep container is recommended to prevent it from overflowing.
3. Stir lightly to dissolve the baking soda in the hot water.
4. Leave it as is for about an hour.
5. After one hour, remove from the hot water and rinse thoroughly with cold water.
The stickiness on the surface is gone! It feels smooth to the touch, and the curry smell that I couldn't get rid of no matter what I did has also been reduced.
The fizzy sensation that removes stickiness is actually carbon dioxide!
The reason silicone becomes sticky even after washing with detergent is not only due to attached oily dirt, but also because of a phenomenon called "hydrolysis," where the surface deteriorates due to moisture in the air. The carbon dioxide produced when baking soda and vinegar are mixed is effective against this stickiness and odor. The cleaning power of baking soda and vinegar, along with the carbon dioxide bubbles, lifts the stickiness from the silicone. The great thing about this method is that you don't need to scrub, so you can clean it simply by soaking it without damaging the material.
For all your silicone items around the house! Points to note when applying this technique.
This soaking method can be applied not only to kitchenware but also to various silicone items throughout the house.
I was bothered by the stickiness on things I frequently touch, like the TV remote cover and my children's toys, but now they feel smooth again and I feel refreshed! When soaking, please check for any decorations other than silicone and avoid anything that may discolor or deform.
Silicone items can be easily cleaned with baking soda and vinegar!
I use my silicone cooking spoons almost every day in the kitchen. I had given up on them, thinking, "They never get rid of the smell, so I guess I'll just have to use them for curry," but with the method I've introduced here, I can clean them whenever I feel like it! If you want to keep all your silicone items in your home clean and enjoy them for a long time, give it a try right away.
