Eutopia Milano, a sugar-free pastry shop for breakfast, lunch, and snacks
Eutopia Milano. Just steps from the Moscova metro station on the M2 line, a small establishment is more than just a simple café; it also boasts an intimate healthy pastry shop.
Eutopia, the place
Its small size, a few oriental prints, a handful of books, and minimalist furnishings reminiscent of Scandinavian style make Eutopia a place to be enjoyed all day. On the left, the counter displays inviting, fresh single-serving desserts.
Our concern is that a café, despite its undeniably high-quality offerings, needs a steady turnover and a large, consistent customer base; a clientele that perhaps isn't always capable of appreciating a healthy, top-quality product. But we hope we're proven wrong, and that the delicious cakes will also attract a less detail-conscious clientele.
Eutopia, the pastry shop
For breakfast, Eutopia starts with a semi-whole wheat croissant (€1.50, one cup, with custard, sheep's milk ricotta with chocolate chips, and blueberry jam); full-fat plain yogurt with fresh seasonal fruit (€4.50); oatcake (€2.50), and a selection of cookies. Among the many cakes, including individual portions, is the Torta Mafalda, inspired by the owner's grandmother, available in a classic version with chocolate-marbled yogurt; with Piedmont hazelnuts, blueberries, and flaxseed; or with nettle, dried lemon balm, and blackberries. With ethnic flavors, the Torta Varanasi: a whole-wheat sablé with rose, saffron custard, blueberries, and rose petals.
Every day, after 11:30 a.m., you can find freshly baked focaccia, always made with different flours, from whole wheat flour to ancient whole grains to whole spelt.
Eutopia, the dishes
The coffee shop is open all day (espresso 1 euro, cappuccino 1.50 euro, black or green tea 3 euro, American coffee 1.50 euro) but here you can also order fruit juices by the glass (3 euro) and bottled drinks (2.50 euro) organic, natural wines by the glass or bottle, craft beer.
Plus, there's a seasonal weekly savory menu designed for a light lunch. Winter options? On Mondays, choose between classic hummus with roasted vegetables; buckwheat with parsley, celeriac, and carrots; and pumpkin soup with beet sprouts and savory granola. On Wednesdays, choose between lentil hummus with roasted vegetables; black rice with pumpkin, julienned squash, and sunflower seeds; and orange potato soup, sprouts, and granola. On Fridays, the options are cannellini bean and pumpkin hummus with roasted vegetables; barley with julienned leeks, red cabbage, squash, and parsley; and purple cauliflower soup, sprouts, and savory granola.
