TikTok-viral 365 Bakery is one of the most popular bakeries on this list, drawing crowds for its wallet-friendly selection of trendy breads in the Crest@Austin neighbourhood. Customers flock to get the crowd-favourite Taro Seaweed Chicken Floss Swiss Roll (RM38.90), which is essentially fluffy sponge cake packed with taro cream and covered in chicken seaweed floss.

There are other flavours to choose from, including Japanese Yuzu Cream Cheese Swiss Roll (RM32.90) and 70% Nama Chocolate Swiss Roll (RM43.90). Alternatively, opt for the Japanese-inspired Purple Yam & Sweet Potato Bun (RM3.80) loaded with creamy sweet potato paste.

If you’ve been to Mount Austin, you would have chanced upon Ta Bakery at least once. This popular bakery has over 5K Instagram followers and more than 400 Google reviews at the time of writing! For small goods to bring home, we recommend trying the Chewy Matcha Mochi Bun (RM3.80) loved for its stretchy core, as well as the Polo Milk Bun (RM3.60).

• 3. Yumido Pastry House Austin

Yumido Pastry House Austin is for fans of egg tarts or old-school pastries. Their Portuguese Egg Tart (RM3.20) sells like hotcakes; you can also buy six pieces for RM17. You get a caramelised top baked to a lovely golden brown, and a velvety smooth custard filling within.

A savoury alternative is the Cheese Tart (RM5.50), also available in a box of three pieces at RM15. We love anything with kaya in it, so their crispy Pandan Kaya Puff (RM2.60) is surely something we’ll snag during our future visit.

Another Mount Austin gem is Mr Roti, a casual bakery that’s a stickler for the basics when it comes to classic buns. Their crowd-favourite Original Chicky Floss costs RM4.70, which is cheaper than what you get in Singapore these days.

There’s also a spicy version for the same price! If these buns bore you, opt for the Hong Kong Polo Bun (RM3.60) or Mont. Snow Char Siew (RM4.80) instead; the latter is a crispy bun packed with sweet-savoury char siew filling.

Save Kenjo Bakery on your list of must-visit Mount Austin bakeries if bagels are your jam. What’s interesting is that their display offers several savoury options, ranging from the creamy Triple Cheese (RM7.90) to the crunchy and nutty Poppy Seed (RM6.90).

There’s also the Purple Sweet Potato (RM9.30), topped with nuts and packed with sweet potato within. Besides bagels, you must get the Yam & Salted Egg Yolk Bun (RM4.50) and Honey Sugar Golden Brick (RM4.30).

Hoki Cake Bakery is the spot for freshly baked Taiwanese castella cakes, available in six different flavours. The cheapest of the lot is, of course, the Original (RM20), an eggy, pillowy block of cake.

Those with a sweet tooth can opt for the Lava Chocolate (RM27), featuring a fudgy, molten core. There are weekend specials to look forward to, namely Matcha Red Bean (RM29) that’s available every Saturday, and Lemon Poppy Seed (RM27) sold only on Sundays.

There’s a bakery in Mount Austin dedicated to baking fruit-based strudels: Strudel Bakery House. There are five variations to choose from, ranging from the signature Apple Strudel (from RM21) to the more premium Durian D24 (from RM31).

For a hassle-free snack to have on the go, we recommend the Cream Horn instead, which comes in six flavours. These are priced from RM25 to RM30. The Raspberry (RM28) or Passionfruit (RM28) one is great if you love sweet-tangy combinations, while the Custard (RM25) won’t disappoint with its rich and creamy core.

There’s also the Korean-inspired Milky Bun (RM3.80), brimming with smooth, sweetened cream, as well as the crispy Deep Fried Taro (RM3.50) bun that’s perfect for orh nee fans. Speaking of taro, the old-school Yam Mousse Slice (RM12.80) is a popular pick if you love traditional flavours.

Unlike the aforementioned bakeries, Good Husband Patisserie isn’t your typical bread shop. Instead, it functions as a cakery and patisserie, selling pretty artisanal cakes and buttery viennoiseries.

They even have Mango Sago Pomelo (RM25) in a mini cake form, topped with actual mango cubes and pomelo strips. For something tangy and fragrant, we recommend the stunning Yuzu Blossom (RM28), finished with an edible floral embellishment.
