It makes perfect sense that Texas couple Willie Nelson and Annie Nelson are writing a cookbook about cooking with cannabis. The tome, Willie and Annie Nelson’s Cannabis Cookbook: Mouthwatering Recipes and the High-Flying Stories Behind Them, will be out in print on November 12, publishing with Gallery Books under Simon & Schuster.

The Texan musician and his wife Annie Nelson are teaming with noted cannabis chef Andrea Drummer for their new recipe and story book.

The book shares dishes the couple has made or had in cities while on the road or visiting their favorite cities, made at their Texas home, It includes recipes that make use of cannabis as an ingredient, alongside food stories from Willie’s life, per the press release. Expect dishes like Buffalo chicken wings, chocolate cake, and fried chicken. There are also recipes for basic cannabis-infused ingredients, such as butter (aka cannabutter), oils, simple syrups, sugars, salts, and tinctures.

Interestingly though, cannabis is still illegal in Texas, though Nelson has been a vocal advocate for its national legalization. “Over a lifetime of study, I learned that pot is more than pleasure. Its positive properties are limitless” he writes in the introduction to the book per the release. “It’s a blessing and a blast. It’s good fuel.”

Rounding out the writing team are co-authors chef Andrea Drummer, David Ritz, and Mia Tangredi. Ritz has co-authored a whole lot of musical biographies, including Nelson’s own autobiography, It’s a Long Story: My Life. Tangredi is a writer.

Drummer is a well-known cannabis chef. She had been part of what is considered the country’s first licensed cannabis restaurant out in Los Angeles, Lowell Farms: a Cannabis Cafe, when it opened in 2019, but has since left.
