Ree Drummond combines pineapple and olives on her favorite pizza
The author of The Pioneer Woman defends a pizza with pineapple and olives, a controversial combination that, according to her, deserves to be tried.
Ree Drummond, author of The Pioneer Woman, cooks simple, home-style dishes and doesn't hold back her opinions on pizza toppings. Her favorite combines two ingredients that divide pizza lovers: pineapple, very popular but controversial, and olives, which not everyone likes because of their salty flavor.
In a video for his Facebook followers, Drummond prepared eight different pizzas, though one stood out above the rest. That pizza featured pineapple, olives, and Canadian bacon. The sweet and savory contrast, combined with a thick tomato sauce and a warm crust, resulted in a perfectly balanced slice.
Drummond has more recipes featuring pineapple. Her jalapeño and pineapple pizza takes 12 to 14 minutes to prepare, and her shrimp and pineapple flatbread pizza takes 16 minutes from start to finish. These combinations might sound more controversial than pineapple and olives, especially for those who can't tolerate spicy food or can't imagine seafood on a pizza, but the chef manages to make the flavors blend seamlessly.
For those who enjoy pineapple, pizza with olives is just the beginning of a long list of Drummond variations.
