Roasted figs with labneh and spiced candied walnuts

Figs have a beautiful floral aroma when in season and only require gentle roasting to intensify their flavour - 1 orangezested then halved

Roasted figs with labneh and spiced candied walnuts
Ingredients · Servings 2 as a starter
  • 10 figs halved
  • 1 orange zested then halved
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • small knob of butter
  • 2 tsp honey plus extra for drizzling
  • 200g labneh or very thick greek yogurt
  • 100g walnut halves
  • 15g caster sugar
  • 25g honey
  • 1 tbsp butter melted
Method · 27 min
  1. Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. For the walnuts, mix together all the ingredients, then spread out over a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Cook for 10 mins, stirring halfway through. Leave to cool completely.
  2. Put the figs in a roasting dish and squeeze over one of the orange halves. Sprinkle over the cinnamon, dot over the butter and drizzle over some honey. Bake for 10-15 mins.
  3. Meanwhile, put the labneh, orange zest and honey in a bowl, squeeze over the other orange half and beat to combine. Spread the labneh mixture over individual plates or one large serving platter. Top with the warm figs and their roasting juices, as well as the candied walnuts.

SPICED CANDIED WALNUTS

- step 1Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.
