Sautéed asparagus with garlic is one of the easiest ways to cook asparagus. It's ready in about 10 minutes and works as a quick side dish for many meals.

The asparagus stays slightly firm, and the garlic adds plenty of flavor. You can keep it very simple or add a few extra ingredients like ginger or soy sauce for a different taste.

If you prefer cooking asparagus in the oven, try Roasted Asparagus with Cherry Tomatoes, or make it more filling with Pan-Fried Asparagus and Potatoes. Xena: I made this without sesame oil because I didn't have any, and it was still great! It's my new fave asparagus recipe and even my picky son and husband enjoyed it!

Recipe ingredients

This is a simple, flexible recipe.

Use fresh green asparagus with firm stalks and closed tips. Don't throw away the woody ends; you can use them to make stock for Cream of Asparagus Soup with Milk.

Seasoning: You can keep it basic with just garlic, salt, and pepper. Or add a few extras like ginger, soy sauce, and a little sesame oil.

Fennel seeds also go well with asparagus if you have them. See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

How to saute asparagus? Step #1: Clean the asparagus, remove the woody ends, and cut the stalks into pieces.

Step #2: Mix soy sauce, grated garlic and ginger, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl. Step #3: Sauté the asparagus in a large cast-iron skillet, often stirring. Step #4: Add the sauce ingredients and stir constantly for another minute or two.

Add sesame oil and serve. How to serve?

Serve sautéed asparagus as a side dish with chicken, fish, or pork. I love it with Baked Chicken Thighs or Chicken with Potato Crust.

It goes well with simple dishes like baked chicken thighs or other oven-cooked meats. For a vegetarian option, skip the Worcestershire sauce and serve it with potatoes or Romanian Polenta.
